Commenting on the failure of the Withdrawal Bill, UNISON general secretary Dave Prentis said:
“Theresa May must stop trying to railroad her awful Withdrawal Agreement through Parliament. It’s been rejected three times, but still the Prime Minister won’t take no for an answer.
“The PM has tried to impose a deal that no-one truly believes is good for the country. But the government can’t keep repeating the same mistakes and hoping for a different outcome.
“The government must now reach out to everyone – other political parties, businesses and unions – to find a way forward that can unite the whole country. Monday’s votes offer MPs another vital opportunity to find a consensus – but time is running out.
“The country’s future relationship with the EU should not be decided by whoever wins the battle to be the next Conservative leader.
“It’s time for a general election to settle Brexit once and for all – and give struggling public services a chance to break free from austerity.”
